public

The public/ directory is used to serve your website's static assets.

The public/ is served at the server root and contains public files that have to keep their names (e.g. robots.txt) or likely won't change (e.g. favicon.ico).

This is known as the static/ directory in Nuxt 2.

plugins

Nuxt has a plugins system to use Vue plugins and more at the creation of your Vue application.

server

The server/ directory is used to register API and server handlers to your application.
